On December 6, 2011, Family Service Canada held its first webinar. The topic? “Onboarding – Successful Orientation for New Hires” presented by Lorraine Watson, co-founder of Essential Learning based in California. This event was strongly supported by its membership. A committee has been established to put together an Executive Leadership Coaching Program to support new executive directors in the network in their roles. The first in a series of webinars will begin in November, 2011 on topics relevant to leadership in the not-for-profit sector. Watch for more details to follow.

Family Services Canada is moving the Executive Leadership Summit to October, rather than the usual February. The change of the event timing will make travel easier, reducing delays often caused by severe winter storms as well  as allow the organization to incorporate the Annual General Meeting into the event. The change in timing also brings a bit of a change in format, with an afternoon added to be dedicated to fseap presentations and discussions.

The format will be more interactive and provide an opportunity for members to present their programs or other topics that would be of interest to the network.  Plenty of opportunities for informal discussions around the challenges leadership face daily in the nonprofit sector will also be provided.

This year’s event will be held on October 19 – 21, 2011 at the Kingbridge Conference Centre in King City, ON (30 Minutes north of Toronto). The Kingbridge Conference Centre is located on acres of land, with many amenities in a beautiful setting.  You can learn more about Kingbridge Conference Centre by visiting their website at www.kingbridgecentre.com.

Family Service Canada welcomes Sue Mallon of Family Service Canada to the role of Interim Board Chair. Sue replaces Teri Nicholas who relinquished the role due to a career change that saw her moving to the health care sector.

We thank Teri for her outstanding drive and commitment to Family Service Canada. Teri was instrumental in establishing our strategic objectives and redefining our mandate and purpose—all with a view to revitalizing the Family Service Canada network. Teri spent the past 30 years of her career in the social service sector. Her contributions are many and she will be missed. We wish her well in her new endeavour.
