At the end of the eight to twelve-week Families & Schools Together Canada (F&ST Canada) sessions, families graduate to F&STWORKS, a 22-month series of monthly multi-family support meetings designed to build and maintain long-term support. F&STWORKS is a core component of the F&ST Canada approach and research has indicated that participation in F&STWORKS not only maintains but increases the positive impact of involvement in F&ST Canada.
F&STWORKS provides families with the support they need to continue to strengthen their family ties and actively join their community. F&STWORKS is run by a parent advisory council of graduates with gradually decreasing staff assistance. One F&ST Canada parent is a paid partner of the team, who, with the help of participating families, plans and leads the activities that systematically strengthen children’s bonds to their family, school and community and continues to make their journey to the next stage of development a pleasant experience. Over time, F&STWORKS evolves into a local support network of parents with common experiences and shared goals to support and strengthen their families.
Adapted from F&STWORKS, the F&STPACE project supports parents and nurtures skill development through fun and educational activities based on a specially designed curriculum about computer and Internet technologies.
